Mr. Tommy Frutos

I was born and raised in Santa Paula and have participated in this great community in many capacities.  I attended the Santa Paula schools as a student and graduated from SPUHS in 1990.  My wife and kids all attended Santa Paula schools and have graduated from SPUHS.  Both my wife and I have continued our academics and have pursued careers in education.  My youngest son is currently a Freshman at Ventura College. My daughter Alyssa graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree from Fullerton University and Master’s degree from Ithaca College, New York.  My middle son Tomas graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree from Presentation College in South Dakota pursuing his Master’s in teaching degree all the while playing Collegiate Baseball for San Diego Christian University.  My strong belief in higher education and belief in this amazing community is testimonial to my family’s success.  I have faith in teachers, coaches, classified staff, administrators, recreation leaders, and clergy that support the development of our youth of Santa Paula.  I believe that all decision should be rooted in what is best for students.  I believe that it takes a village to raise a child

I have spent the past 30+ years in many capacities as a youth advocate from coach, youth leader, religious leader, city recreation coordinator, classroom teacher, outreach counselor, Chicano activist and so much more. Over my lifetime, I have had the privilege and honor of earning several degrees: Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Labor Studies, Sociology, Dropout Prevention Specialist Degree from Sacramento State, Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific and Teacher Credential from National University. Given my extensive education, my most notable area of higher learning has been my 30 years of service.

The “why” in my life has always been to serve the youth of Santa Paula, as I am excited for the journey ahead as a trustee member as I look forward to working with such a great trustee team, SPUSD staff members and community members to best meet the needs of our students. Although challenging, I am ready to address the upcoming district needs like the high school gym, band room, Isbell facility, serving our special needs population from ELL, Sped Ec, and so much more.
