Drug Prevention
We recognize the need to keep our schools free of drugs in order to create a safe and healthy environment that is conducive to learning and promotes student health and well-being. Our goal is to provide students, families, and staff with the tools, resources, and education needed to prevent drug misuse and to foster a safe, healthy environment for all.
synthetic drugs & opioid overdose
Synthetic drugs that are not prescribed by a physician, such as fentanyl or opioids, are extremely dangerous, and there is the possibility that dangerous synthetic drugs can be found in counterfeit pills.
Prevention Matters
Studies indicate that individuals who begin abusing drugs at a young age are at a higher risk of developing addiction. Prevention efforts often focus on delaying that first drink until a teen’s brain has matured enough to support responsible decision-making. The teenage brain undergoes rapid development, which can result in impulsive behavior. Research also shows that the brain doesn't fully mature until around age 25, with adolescence being a critical period of growth. As a result, teens may not always have the mental capacity to make the best choices for their health and future.
the dangers of Fentanyl
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. It is a major contributor to fatal and nonfatal overdoses in California and the United States.
There are two types of fentanyl: pharmaceutical fentanyl and illicitly manufactured fentanyl (illicit fentanyl). Both are synthetic opioids. Learn more about the dangers associated with the use of fentanyl by clicking here.
