Isbell Modernization Project

HMC Architects lead SPUSD through the programming phase for the modernization of the existing two-story building, as the building has seismic issues that need to be rectified.  Programming efforts included public outreach (both surveys and public meetings) and gathering input from all District stakeholders, including students, parents of students, site staff, and District personnel.   Concurrent to the programming phase, the District carried out the CEQA process to address the historical resources aspect of the building.  A final EIR was certified by the Board of Trustees on March 26, 2025.

Ultimately, HMC Architects was selected to carry out this project's design.  The design is now in the "agency approval" phase, as HMC submitted plans to DSA (Division of the State Architect) on July 31, 2026.  The aim is to obtain DSA approval by the spring of 2027, as the DSA approval process for a project of this magnitude will take several months.

The District also retained a general contractor during the design phase to provide pre-construction services.  They are assisting the design team, performing constructability review, and providing cost estimating in concert with HMC.
