Safe to Learn, Free to Dream

A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Dear SPUSD Community,

The Santa Paula Unified School District recognizes that potential changes in immigration policy have created a climate of heightened concern and anxiety for many of our students and their families.

The Board of Education remains steadfast in its commitment to the success of all students. We believe every school site should be a safe and welcoming place for all students and families, regardless of their citizenship or immigration status.

To uphold this commitment, the Governing Board of the Santa Paula Unified School District reaffirms its resolution to provide safe and supportive schools where students can learn without fear or disruption. As a District, we will continue to:

  • Welcome and support children from all backgrounds, including those from undocumented families.
  • Protect the confidentiality of student and family information.
  • Keep immigration authorities off of our campuses to the fullest extent permitted by law.

To support these goals, the Board adopted a resolution in 2015, followed by Board Policy #5145.13, which explicitly states that the District will not assist in immigration enforcement by local, state, or federal agencies.

At SPUSD, we are committed to ensuring that our students are safe to learn and free to dream.

Respectfully,
Jeffrey Weinstein, Superintendent

Every child deserves the right to learn, dream, and succeed.
