    Message from the Principal

    Dear Families,

As you may know, on December 22nd, the Governor and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced that it would offer millions of families across the state free at-home COVID-19 test kits for students returning from winter break. The tests arrived in the Ventura County Office of Education (VCOE) last week and have been delivered to our school site.

As such, in partnership with CDPH and VCOE, we are able to provide each of our students with an On/Go 10-minute COVID-19 at home Antigen Self-Test Kit (containing two tests each) to administer at home as needed (if exposed, or if symptoms develop).  Per VCPH, the ideal time to test would be 5-7 days after a close contact exposure or if exposure is unknown 3-5 days after symptoms begin.  Tests will expire at the end of February 2022. Please keep the second test in the box for future use or use at the end of the 10 day quarantine period.

There is no requirement to have a negative test to be able to attend school. However, SPHS strongly recommends that students utilize these tests as COVID-19 cases are on the rise and use is encouraged when knowingly exposed or if symptomatic. Testing students at home is voluntary, and test kits are provided as a way to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and keep our students, staff, and their families safe and in school.

Rather, it is a supplemental one-time additional “layer of safety.” If there is a positive antigen test, please confirm the positive result at our onsite PCR testing site and begin to immediately quarantine and notify the school office.
    • The tests included in the kit are nasal swab antigen tests that will provide results in ten minutes. Each box comes with instructions for administering the test and interpreting test results.
    • If the at-home tests result in a student receiving a positive test result, families should:
      1. Report the result to us using the COVID Reporting Form re: SPHS Students
      2. Keep students home from school until they are cleared to return. Our School sites will advise families of their students’ return dates.
    • Step-by-Step Instructions are included in the test kit box and on the On/Go companion app, downloadable by scanning the QR code on the box or available in the Apple App Store and Google Play, guides you seamlessly through each test step, from specimen collection to results interpretation.
